Hello, I’m Mike Gaspers. I’m back with you for this week’s half hour of information, inspiration and invitation around the activities of the Iowa Knights of Columbus.
This is Knight Life…our Mission is to Go Make A Difference – for our brother Knights, for their families, for life.

Overview of the Podcast
The Iowa Knights of Columbus each year sponsors spelling bees. Competition begins at the local council level and proceeds up to the state. Jason Follett was at this year’s championship bee in Ames and had the opportunity to speak with some of the spellers. First we hear from the 4th graders.
I’m with Jason – I don’t want to tackle some of those words. The next two visitors are 7th graders. I’m heartened to hear them speak of the rosary as a reminder that God is with us.
Back in February on a chilly Sunday night I ventured to Manchester Iowa. Council 1962 was having their annual awards banquet and Anita and I were invited. I was able to talk with a couple good friends. Dennis Scherbring was a district deputy while I was serving as Church Director. We shared many state family experiences. This night I cornered Sue his wife and we talked about the Knights; about Dennis’25 years as a member and of course memories.
I also had a chance to see an elder brother — Jim Kerper. Jim and I sparred more than once when I was State Deputy the first time. He was not afraid to let his opinions be known. I do appreciate Jim and other passionate Knights like him.
Another brother Knight with many years of service is JP McCuster, a Membership / Program consultant from Virginia. I recently had the opportunity to share some reflections with JP on his 70th birthday.
Lent is a time of new beginnings as we let go of those material and spiritual flaws that separate us from Christ. Kelly Tornow is beginning the position of Grand Knight. He decided to address the council at this first meeting with personal words of hope and challenge.
This week’s Knights to Christ segment focuses on charity; not the large works we Knights are sometimes fond of but those small, quiet unassuming acts that are gift of hope and light to others when we care enough to be Christ for them. The kind Kelly Tornow brings to life.
We are a family friendly fraternity. Our principles are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. We place God First and then Act to serve others in charity.
If you feel prompted to give something back and want to become more of the Catholic man you were hoping to be, join us as we make a difference serving our church, our communities and our families.
