This Week on Knight Life
This week on Knight Life we find out what Knights can do to help promote vocations, how membership in the Knights arises from family experiences and one member’s joy in helping others.
Hello, I’m Mike Gaspers back with you for a half hour of information, inspiration and invitation around the activities of the Iowa Knights of Columbus.
This is Knight Life…our Mission is Be Men of Courage and to do everything with LOVE for our fellow man, woman, child and unborn child.
We open this week with a prayer for life from Fr Dan Greving of the Sts Mary and Joseph Cluster in the Sioux City Diocese.

Overview of the Podcast
Abortion is generational. It impacts parents, grandparents and siblings who will never know the child. It also alters the future, as the child will never be able to leave a mark on the world … or have children or grandchildren.
It would seem that abortion should be unthinkable. No woman grows up wanting to have an abortion. But women are often pressured … and told it’s the best way out of a bad situation. And it happens all too frequently.
40 days for life is a prayer and witness campaign which has two effective outcomes. (1) it saves the lives of many unborn babies by giving their mother hope and options instead of abortion. And (2) involvement draws people into the pro life movement making prayer warriors of them. These men and women save lives by their witness. They will be changed by the experience. Fall campaigns are underway in 5 Iowa locations and you are invited to participate in person or as a prayer warrior from a distance. Last week we met Rose Sullivan, executive director of NCDVD at the annual conference in St Louis. This week she explains to Steve Heffern what the Iowa Knights can do to help the NCDVD mission and vocations overall.
Thank you to all the Knights, Serrans and others assisting an supporting vocations. Vocations begin at home when we learn from our parents what it means to love and dedicate our lives to service. Desire for Knighthood often begins at home as our children learn by working along side their fathers at Knights events. It is also caught by these same offspring as they recognize the joy in service and growth in faith unfolding in their father’s lives.
One such Knights family is that of Deacon Marvin Klein. We’ve met Marvin before – he was deacon at the Living History Farms assisting St Pope John Paul II at Mass in 1979. I ran into Marvin at a first degree in which his grandsons became brother Knights.
I really love the grandson’s explanation of how this was really their decision.
Knights are building a culture of service and care thru our many charitable activities. Many times the Knights lending their hands to a project find their hearts are changed and their faith strengthened in ways unexpected when they said yes to lending a hand. I met one such brother Knight at a district meeting in Storm Lake. Merlin Platt is the Grand Knight of 14494 of Manson. While plans for leadership and council events are a big part of his Grand Knight’s role, a key activity to look forward to is a service trip to a sister parish in the south.
In the coming week College Knights from across this country will gather in New Haven for the annual college convention. They will celebrate successes, learn skills and build fraternity over a long week end. We reach back into March as I reflect on the importance and strength of a college council; specifically the council at UNI St Stephen the Witness on the occasion of their anniversary of founding.

We are a family friendly fraternity. We place God First in our lives and then with mercy and in charity act courageously to serve others.
If you feel prompted to give something back and want to become more of the Catholic man you were created to be, join us as we make a difference serving our church, our communities and our families. Knights make it easy to give back.
I’m Mike Gaspers, thank you for listening. Feeling inspired? Then act courageously and with love to put your faith into action by word and by deeds.
