Midwest March for Life – Overview of the Podcast
We begin this week with a prayer for life from Fr Dan Greving of the Sts Mary and Joseph Cluster in the Sioux City Diocese.
At the start of January I had dinner with State Deputy Jon Aldrich and reflected with him on completing 6 months as State Deputy. We discussed upcoming initiatives including the Midwest March for Life and our renewed emphasis on Building up the Domestic Church – that is strengthening the Catholicity of Families while supporting our parishes.
Jon is leading the effort to refocus our involvement in parish life and our families by Knight’s councils across all Iowa. And we do mean all families so we wish Antonio well in his mission to reach out to those of Spanish heritage to be a part of the Knight family. And we hope you our listeners become involved not only with the Midwest March for Life but with Knights for Life in home towns throughout the year.
Hope to see you at the capitol this week end Saturday January 16th!
After last April’s state convention I heard from a handful of folks regarding the Knights for Life Ultrasound initiative. One name came to my attention several times – that of Clay Gubbels of Carroll. Something that week end spoke to his heart while listening to plans for more ultrasound units – a message he carried back and delivered passionately to his council brothers.
The Carroll council under Clay’s leadership and with the cooperation of the Grand Knight moved forward to raise money to meet the challenge to fund more ultrasounds. The efforts of the council resulted in $10,500 which was donated to the Iowa Knights Ultrasound initiative.
I ran into Clay at a recent 4th degree exemplification and we spent a few minutes talking about the project and is awakened passion.
A very sincere and humble thanks goes out to Clay and the Carroll council brothers. I’m so very happy they acted on the message heard at convention and stepped up to make a difference for saving lives. In both big and small ways each of us can make a difference for life. Be courageous and act now in your community for the cause of life.
A year ago December we spoke with Dick Makinster about Birthright another life affirming option supported by Knights around the state. Dick and the Knights in Marion have been involved with assisting Birthright for many years and he now serves as the Birthright State Chairman for Iowa Knights.
Birthright International is a non-profit charitable organization that has been providing love and support for over 45 years to women facing unplanned pregnancies. If you want to get involved contact a local chapter or your local Knights council to help. Visit http://birthright.org/en/ for more information
We first met Scott Valencia, District Warden #48 back in December as we discussed his new involvement with the Knights. Scott is very media savvy and talked with me about the value of social media to further the mission of the Knights of Columbus, to inspire and to bring hope to those who need good news.
Getting the story out to others – your story as told by you is very important to everyone including the Knights. To find out more on the Iowa Knights visit our website www.iowakofc.org. You can follow Iowa Knights of Columbus on Facebook or on Twitter @IAKnights for the latest news and updates. Consider posting a comment about your experience with the Knights of Columbus.
I’m Mike Gaspers, thank you for listening. Feeling inspired? Then act courageously and with love to put your faith into action by word and by deeds. Don’t forget to March with us this Saturday!
Interested in the Band of Brothers? Contact a Knight or your parish priest and we will bring you into this fraternity of Catholic men.
