This Week on Knight Life
….Knights of Columbus allow men to give back and to be transformed – in profound ways. In the ways of faithfulness. This benefit of the Knights was part of the original vision of our Founder Fr Michael McGivney.
Hello, I’m Mike Gaspers back with you for a half hour of information, inspiration and invitation around the activities of this band of brothers the Iowa Knights of Columbus.
This is Knight Life…our Mission is Be Men of Courage and to do everything with LOVE for our fellow man, woman, child and unborn child.

Overview of the Podcast – Nicaragua
Knights Know Mercy is our ongoing theme thru Lent and all thru this year. Fr. Bill Rousch reinforces the nature of mercy as we begin this week with prayer:
Kevin Hlavac
Often Knights’ Charity is for immediate assistance where it is needed; but often the need continues. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life goes a wise saying. Harlan Knights are working with Shelby County to partner with a parish in Nicaragua to help local people meet their own needs – teaching them to fish so to speak. Knights and parishioners visit Villa Sandino to build relationships and to share knowledge on several projects for that local parish.
Kevin is a great example of Knights living the best charity – the kind that takes root and grows on its own. I’m sure those involved find their lives very changed by this experience. In coming weeks we will be hearing more from Kevin after returning from his most recent trip to install solar panels.

Andrew Walther
In addition to building up parishes far away, Knights are best when we focus on our local parish to assist the pastor in his many responsibilities. One that the Knights are especially well suited for is to reach the families who are the building blocks of any parish. Fr McGivney’s original vision was to care for the spiritual and material welfare of these Catholic families. Johnathon continues a conversation with Andrew Walther of our Supreme office regarding our emphasis to Build-up the Domestic Church whose focus begins with family.
When Knights bring our families into our charitable activities we grow together in faith as well as become more connected to the parish and its mission to evangelize.

Shawn Still
For 132 years Knights have been focused on families both material and spiritually. The former is expressed in our highly rated voluntary insurance program. Johnathon Eltrevoog talks about Knights with Shawn Still General Agent from South East Iowa about his career and love of the Knights.
Knights of Columbus Insurance focuses on the circle of life: life insurance, Disability insurance, long term care and retirement.
Maybe it’s time for you to see what the Knights can do you for your family. Check out our website iowakofc.org and click on the insurance tab at the top.
Living out our faith as a Catholic man is a key experience of many brother Knights. We hear again from Andrew Walther on why he is a Knight and how we can or should approach others to consider becoming a Knight.
It is true – the experience of being a Knight will change your life for the better as testified to by so many Knights we’ve heard hear on the Knight Life.
Steve Hesprich returns with President’s Day message reflecting upon the foundation in faith of our First President George Washington.
President Washington’s prayer is also a Knights prayer for brotherly affection, for justice and for mercy. May we always be humble enough to seek these three goods.
Why are you a Knight – Orlando Gil of Harlan challenges all of us to not only answer this question but to share it with others – to inform, inspire and yes to invite others to join the Knights.
You can read my own answer to this question in coming weeks on the Harlan Knights blog. Visit http://www.harlankofc.org/category/blog/ to read this and others.
We are story people. We want to share our story; we want to hear your story; your story as told by yourself. To find out more on the Iowa Knights visit our website www.iowakofc.org. You can follow Iowa Knights of Columbus on Facebook or on Twitter @IAKnights for the latest news and updates. Consider posting a comment about your experience with the Knights of Columbus.
I’m Mike Gaspers, thank you for listening. Feeling inspired? Then act courageously and with love to put your faith into action by word and by deeds. Don’t forget to March with us this Saturday!
