Overview of the Podcast
In September our Holy Father will visit Philadelphia for the World meeting of Families. The Knights are looking forward to the chance to see our Holy Father and to dialogue about the Family Fully Alive. We learn the habit of courage, of love, of choosing life — the habit of real Christian faith — in the school of the family. In preparation then let us pray for the success of families and our efforts as Knights to strengthen and support them.
The 133 Supreme convention opened Tuesday August 4th in the Philadelphia convention center with a majestic opening mass.
Over 2000 people were in attendance to worship together and give witness to the importance of placing our faith in the forefront of our charity. For those attending a first time the impact of Mass is memorable and exciting. Although we are not in a magnificent church building the church of the faithful is certainly tangibly present.
Isaac Doucette was in attendance as an Iowa Delegate to convention. He recounts some of his highlights and inspiration to go and be courageous.
Last week we spoke with John Zweibahmer from Ossian in anticipation of convention starting. This week John and I continue the conversation looking back to what was inspiring and looking ahead to the work before us.
District 8 is on the ball and very enthused to bring Fr McGivney’s vision to life in North East Iowa.
A standard visage at Supreme convention is a man who sings both the opening and closing odes for the meeting. Anthony Colbert has been doing this since I started attending conventions in 2005. I was able to meet him outside the Washington DC hospitality suite and learn how this came to be his job.
Another Past State Deputy who is one of my classmates has made it onto the Supreme Board of Directors. While waiting for the next meeting I asked Mick Gilliam to share what his experience in the Knights is like from the board.
In this week’s Knights to Christ Entry Steve hits the nail on the head and to hear him tell it I don’t know why I didn’t figure this out earlier. Like many men I’m slow to learn.

We are a family friendly fraternity. We place God First in our lives and then with mercy and in charity act courageously to serve others.
If you feel prompted to give something back and want to become more of the Catholic man you were created to be, join us as we make a difference serving our church, our communities and our families.
I’m Mike Gaspers, thank you for listening. Feeling inspired? Then act courageously and with love to put your faith into action by word and by deeds.
Knight Life is a production of the Iowa Knights of Columbus.
The song Courageous is by Casting Crowns.
