This Week on Knight Life
Today our program celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Earling, Iowa Knights of Columbus, held on Divine Mercy Sunday. We visit the struggle of human existence, the strength of faith and the exaltation of Sainthood.
35 years ago Pope John Paul II’s came to Iowa and now he is now a saint. Thirty five years is only half a lifetime so many who were part of the faithful attending the service at Living History Farms and vividly remember the day Pope John Paul came to Iowa.
Pope John the 23rd set in motion in the 1960’s renewal in our church. He directed us to reach out to the world, to open up our faith and to do good works. We realize that he is now a saint.
As Knights we devote ourselves to charity, unity, fraternity and Patriotism. We are a family friendly fraternity of catholic men. We stand for life and helping all in need.
Later, we hear from a man with a powerful message about life and faith and how he and his wife prepared to bring a new life into the world, knowing it would be very challenging

Today our program celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Earling, Iowa Knights of Columbus, held on Divine Mercy Sunday.
Knights in Earling celebrated their 100th anniversary last Sunday. It was a gala occasion that was augmented by the canonization of Pope’s John Paul and John the 23rd. Iowan’s have a strong connection to Saint John Paul as he was the only pope ever to come to this state.
Mike Gaspers attended the Earling Knights Celebration and spoke with Deacon Marvin Klein who has many good memories of being a Knight and Deacon with a few special moments in the presence of a Saint. Mike also spoke with 93 year old Francis Kenkel and his wife Mary Ann. They have been married for 63 years. This is not your traditional Knight story.
We then feature an interview with Chad Judice, a writer and speaker who has a great message about life that comes from their son, Eli. Chad recently spoke at Gabriel’s corner, a pregnancy resource clinic in Council Bluffs. Dennis Shea, our Iowa Knights Culture of Life chairman, is part of Gabriel’s Corner and their work to help women facing crisis pregnancies. He helped to bring in a speaker for their annual banquet who is nationally known for his pro life message. We hear his inspirational message which is also in his book “Waiting for Eli: A Father’s Journey from Fear to Faith”. Chad is devoting himself to speaking at pro life meetings so if you have need for his message contact him on his website – Chad Judice.
This weekend, Knights from all across the state will gather in Des Moines for our annual convention. We will confer the 4th degree on a group of gentlemen, hear from our state officers, elect a new state warden and generally charge ourselves up for the year ahead.
I look forward to seeing the many men and women who have become good friends through the work of the Knights of Columbus.
We always have room for one more, or 10 more in our order.
It starts with you. Come to a council meeting at your parish and there is no telling how far it can lead you. Maybe you can meet a saint or just find satisfaction in helping others. We are the Iowa Knights of Columbus,
