Overview of the Podcast – Knights for Life
Mark your calendars for January 16th. That is the date of the Midwest March for Life in Des Moines. We start with sounds from last year’s rally.
You heard Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Jenifer Bowen of Iowa Right to Life and keynote speaker Josh Brahm of the Equal Rights Institute. Iowa Knights are once again a key sponsor of the event and invite all to bring their families and show our defense of life from conception to natural death is unwavering. The day begins with 9:30 AM mass at St Ambrose Cathedral with our Iowa bishops. The rest of the day is packed with a march around the Iowa Capitol, a luncheon program at the Iowa Events Center featuring Melissa Ohden
(an abortion attempt survivor of a saline abortion), and breakout sessions including talks on the abortion pill reversal and Pro-Life caucus training.. Visit www.iowartl.org for more information and to make your luncheon reservation. Plan to be in Des Moines to show your support, to meet others in the pro-life movement and to be inspired.
Speaking of inspired, Bob Sinclair and I met 10 years ago around a shared desire to do more to help mothers and babies in Iowa. Recently Bob agreed to chair the statewide ultrasound initiative and Knights for Life campaign. His enthusiasm is contagious.
A coincidence perhaps while Bob was talking about distractions while the breeze was blowing and the sirens started getting louder during the rest of our time. During this past December’s State Family week end the Knights for Life fundraising initiative was kicked off with a challenge to raise $52 per member on average over the next 5 years.
Recently I attended a District Meeting in Storm Lake. Don Kenyon invited representatives of the Manson council to inform the rest of us on their fund raising efforts. Listen into the conversation. You will hear Jerry Chizek Financial Secretary and Don Kenyon DD #18 as they discuss the project details. Don also mentions finding the project on the Knights of Columbus website at http://www.kofc.org/un/en/prolife/programs/babybottle.html.
Intrigued by the Manson success story I spent some extra time after the meeting going into more details with Jerry Chizek and Merlyn Platt Grand Knight. I think you will enjoy the exchange and their enthusiasm.
Manson and other parish council Knights have gotten off to a good start on our way to averaging $20 per member per year in the near future. In solidarity we save lives! There are many worthwhile charities to which we can give assistance. Last week we learned about our Iowa Charitable Foundation. For more information on the Iowa Charitable Foundation and how it may benefit you while doing good for others visit http://iowakofc.org/ and look for Charitable Foundation under the “State” tab or click here http://iowakofc.org/page/charitable-foundation
Steve Hesprich reflects on a great theme – From Here to Fraternity. I love that line. I love even better the concept it represents. Join the Knights and join a Band of Brothers.

We are a family friendly fraternity. We place God First in our lives and then with mercy and in charity act courageously to serve others.
If you feel prompted to give something back and want to become more of the Catholic man you were created to be, join us as we make a difference serving our church, our communities and our families. Knights make it easy to give back.
I’m Mike Gaspers, thank you for listening. Feeling inspired? Then act courageously and with love to put your faith into action by word and by deeds.
