Overview of the Podcast-Courageous Love
Those who joined the Midwest March for life on January 16th braved typical Iowa cold. Afterwards a number of speakers addressed supporters gathered for a luncheon sponsored in large part by the Iowa Knights of Columbus at the Iowa events center. One of the distinguished speakers was Governor Branstad of Iowa who acknowledged efforts such as the Midwest March are making a difference in the struggle to protect human life.
The Governor made it clear that the best course is to lay a foundation that is solid when legislating on behalf of life. I had the opportunity to speak with the Governor personally after the luncheon on life and the Knights of Columbus.
We are very thankful for courageous elected leaders willing to stand up for life and encourage you our listeners to challenge candidates to stand by our founding principle of life first, then liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The most powerful testimony that day was given by Melissa Ohden – an abortion survivor. It is not possible in the time we have to hear her entire message – but here is a small sampling of her testimony.
Melissa shared many facts about her struggle to survive and then thrive. She attributes it all to love, a love she experienced and now desires for everyone.
Listening to Melissa I am humbled by her courage – the courage to love those who did her wrong. The Courage to forgive them and welcome them back into her life. And the faith insight to recognize with gratitude God’s plan unfolding in her life. Thomas Merton is credited with saying: “To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.”
Melissa Ohden is a living experience of HIS loving grace despite all hardships. I hope to emulate her example of courageous love. I recommend visiting her blog page http://melissaohden.com/
Events which host inspiring speakers do not happen without the efforts of many dedicated individuals. Andy Milam is one such person. A brother Knight Andy brings a lot of enthusiasm to bear on behalf of life.
Iowa Knights of Columbus are proud to have been key sponsors of the Midwest March and of brothers such as Andy who act for life. Many thanks also to Iowa Right to Life who organized this year’s Midwest March. Visit their website at http://www.iowartl.org/.
A regular at pro-life events is Dennis Shea. Dennis shares his impressions of the Midwest March for Life.
Many of you may have seen the story of those returning from the national march celebrating Mass on an impromptu ice altar. It’s been shared on social media everywhere. While not present at that Mass, Christopher Hoffman a college Knight from Ames was at the march and can testify to the faith awakening awesomeness all around.
Thanks Chris for attending this year’s march for life. I know it will inspire many others whose lives you will touch.
We are story people. We want to share our story; we want to hear your story; your story as told by youreself. To find out more on the Iowa Knights visit our website www.iowakofc.org.
