Hello, I’m Mike Gaspers back with you for a half hour of information, inspiration and invitation around the activities of the Iowa Knights of Columbus.

Overview of the Podcast
On September 8th Pope Francis issued changes to the Catholic Church’s annulment processes intended to make them more of a pastoral ministry than a barrier to faith and healing. In the coming weeks and months we will find out what simpler and cheaper may mean in practice. Meanwhile many of us know family members, friends and brother Knights experiencing the tragedy of a failed marriage. Each situation is different but the pain and sense of loss is common to all.
I reached out to Ken Root for his initial reaction to these announcements as I knew he had personally walked this path.
I reiterate my respect for Ken’s courage in doing his best to abide by the Church’s teaching on marriage while seeking for an annulment. The path of faith is not always one of agreement; nor is it easy. Ken mentioned to me the importance of support received from brother Knights in keeping him going.
I hope we hear more from Knights with similar experiences and from those who minister to those seeking an annulment.
Marriage is a vocation of two people in service to each other for God’s greater glory. Another vocation is that of diocesan Priest.
It goes without saying that both vocations are not always easy and it takes deep examination and discernment to enter either with a proper attitude. As with all journeys into new territory a guide is a good idea; even necessary. Priestly vocations are guided and directed at the diocesan level by a priest selected by the bishop.
Paul Lee and Steve Heffern recently traveling to St Louis to participate in the annual National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors. This organization brings together diocesan vocations directors for education and networking. The Knights of Columbus assist with this endeavor both locally and on a larger scale. Steve Heffern sat down with Rose Sullivan to find out more about the conference and Knights involvement.
Thanks to Steve for bringing us this insight from the conference. We will hear more from Rose Sullivan in a future segment.
40 days for life is a prayer and witness campaign which has proven very effective in drawing people into the pro life movement and making prayer warriors of them. These men and women will most likely save lives by their witness. They will undoubtedly be changed by the experience regardless. Fall campaigns are underway in many areas and you are invited to participate in person or as a prayer warrior from a distance.
We will return to Knight Life after this message from our State Chaplain.
Steve Hesprich returns with a Knights to Christ reflection upon knowing God’s will for our lives.
My youngest daughter frequently remarks about current events “everything happens for a reason.” For years I’ve responded “perhaps not, you just need to find a reason to make sense of it.”
I stumbled across a quotation from St. Pope John Paul II which caused me to rethink my position: “… for people of faith, there are no coincidences, only aspects of God’s providence that we have not yet fully understood.” Interesting don’t you think? So thank you Steve and St John Paul: Watch for the small miracles .. You may just find God’s will for your life.
